- I think it's about time to wrap this discussion now. We've heard a few
- different opinions from people, and the ideas that have been presented are
- all subject to further discussion, so I thought 'hey, why don't I write my
- opinion as well, and try to make it better than the others?'
-
- First of all, there should be music. There's no point in discussing that -
- there will always be a majority of people that will enjoy a nice tune in
- the background, especially in a game like this where the mindless
- slaughtering can get to be too monotonous after a while. (I know I am like
- that - is there something wrong with me? ;-) Besides, if we want this game
- to become popular, we might need good reviews, and many reviews take music
- into consideration.
-
- Also, I would prefer to have more than just one tune - having only one
- would become way too boring in the long run, but this wish puts a lot more
- strain on those who've volunteered to do the music.
-
- Now, as for what kind of music to do, I would like to strictly forbid any
- kind of happy, cheerful tune, even though I'm not in a position to veto
- anything in this project. My reason for wanting this is clear - Bad Mood
- is not the kind of game that would usually have a typical Rob Hubbard /
- David Whittaker kind of soundtrack, but should rather depend of a fairly
- less musical audio background, such as the battle scenees in the X-Com
- games on the PC (Especially "Enemy Unknown"), that have the most brilliant
- atmosphere to play in. If you don't know what I'm talking about, try to
- find a copy of those games on a PC near you and check them out.
-
- And then, of course, the discussion about Midi music vs. tracker modules.
- Now, I must admit I don't know much about music on the Falcon, but I do
- know one thing, and that is that if I ever get to network BM against other
- Falcons it will most likely be through Midi communications... Could you
- guys with experience please explain to me how that could be done without
- losing Midi-based music?
-
- And it should be configurable. Totally and definitely so.
-
- A quick checklist:
- * We should have music, both in the menu and in-game
- * It should be possible to turn it off, or at least change volume.
- * It should not be cheery - should instigate Bad Mood and depressions ;-)
- * But it should also be varied - not a two-minute thing being repeated
- * The music must not interfere with the rest of the game (!)
- If anybody have more points than the ones I have presented, please let us
- hear them, but let us get this discussion, as the other ones, over with
- quickly so we can let people get to work as soon as possible!
